1984

It's been awhile since I last posted, but I felt the need to do so after my recent flight through ATL. While I was waiting for my connection the loudspeakers announced that we were at threat level "Orange" and that we, the people, had to be on guard for threats to our country.

Does this remind anyone of anything? If your answer is 1984, then you win. When did we get to this point that our government is feeling more and more like the Party; I am just waiting for the day when we have telescreens constantly watching for terrorism and other threats ...

I hope this day never comes but given the path we have been on since 9/11, I fear for the future ...

So this "threat" level thing has been going on for awhile.
I don't see why we shouldn't be aware of what is going on. If someone leaves a bag laying around ask to see who left it, if no one left it report it.
It isn't a big brother thing or snooping it is being soemone who pay attention.
Sorry couldn't disagree with you more.

Irony!

Orwell has turned out to be correct about a quite a few things, but fortunately it didn't turn into oppression. However, when oppression will come they will find an impressive toolbox ready to use.

The terrorists won. They instigated terror and we let the government take our privacy to appease our fears. Unless our direction changes greatly, it won't be long until the new full-body scanners invade sporting events, concerts, and even large office buildings. The justification for this may eventually become 1984-esque propaganda. Ugh.
